I don't particularly like blogs, however much of a narcissist I am. I always forget to update them, and when I do I have the odd urge to turn each and every post into some sort of complex essay with a hidden theme. It is utter torture.
This forum might be the perfect place for me to start a blog though, as I need not worry about my terrible grammar (I jest--of course my grammar is perfect) or being laughed out of town for regurgitating my thoughts one too many times. For the most part, it does not interest people to hear about my life.
Today, I went to Wal-Mart. I purchased a pair of khakis. I also went to see a hand specialist, and I am happy to say that there is nothing wrong with my hand (I injured it a while back in karate, and I was afraid that I had damaged a joint permanently). Also I got a haircut.
Tomorrow, I am going to give blood. I'm pretty excited because this is the first time I have ever given blood (I've never been old enough), and I'll be helping a classmate of mine who has jaw cancer. Furthermore, I will finally know whether I am O- or O+. However cool it would be to have O- blood (it's rarer), I sincerely hope that I have O+ blood for the singular selfish reason that I would be less likely to die from loss of blood because they can't find a suitable donor if I were in an accident.
And in about two weeks I am going to go to the BPA (Business Professionals of America) state conference in Dallas. I'll be competing in the "Entrepreneurship" category with one of my companies. I hope I win because then I'll be able to go to Reno for Nationals. I'm also pretty excited because, well, I met this girl at Regionals--she took first in the "Entrepreneurship" category, and I took second, so we were the only two to qualify for State for our category--and she'll be there. She is quite attractive, I must say...and it should be interesting, since I fully intend to beat her this time.
I'll be updating probably once a week, if you find my life interesting enough to read about. I'll let you know my blood type next week, and hopefully if this site works on Mozilla Firefox I'll be able to update more. ;)
Jake
It's our great surprise to find your glorious return after you were out of our vision for quite a long time. I do think every one of the Community miss you bitterly.
From your posts, we are sure that you are now back to the US.
It's very interesting to share with us your life and work across the Pacific Ocean. The riddle of your blood type could have been unveiled when the post is done. I suppose you'll get O- :)
It seems that the BPA runs Enterpreneurship selection and sponsors those selected. I'm interested to know if you have run serveral companies as you mentioned "one of my companies". I hope your Chinese learning in Xiamen has contributed to your company operation.
The girl you 'exposed' to us would be a new riddle. You may let me know more after the conference:)
Good luck to your journey to the BPA in Dallas.
I'm not sure where you live or work. I'll visit the US in April if I could succeed in my visa application. It'll be fun if I could meet you there.

nice to see you here~~~
hope you can help me improve my english~~~~
best wishes~~~
123go: Thanks for the warm welcome back. I think I have O-, too. We shall have to see. BPA does indeed run the competition, and therefore the categories. The girl is...her name is Anne, and she is a most fascinating character. Yes, I currently own three companies--I describe them briefly in the "Jake is back?" thread. If you would like more information about any of them, just let me know, and I'll provide it.
Good luck with the visa! If you wait until a Democrat is in office (which will inevitably happen), the borders might be less secure, and you'll be able to get one more quickly. If you manage to get to the states, go down to the public library--they have free internet access--and leave me a message on this forum. I'll try to help you out with some legal stuff, like a green card if you plan on staying, and if you want to apply to be a citizen, I can quiz you for the test you have to take on American history and government. I am exceptionally good at American history.
flora.3: I hope so, too. That's why I'm on this forum.
Jake

I am very glad to hear that you know me, and i hope to know wether you are really a 18 years old boy and where are you living now, maybe i can meet you if you visit Boston where i am living now.
Well, I'll be 18 on March 19th (counting down the days), so I'm not 18 yet. I live in Houston, TX (see the last post for a map), and I'm afraid I cannot really visit Boston at the moment...it's rather far from where I am. Perhaps if you lived in Dallas or Austin.
However, I am glad to hear that you are in the states now. How do you like Boston? Two very well known universities, MIT and Harvard, are very closer to where to live...I know someone at both universities. A friend of mine, Elizabeth Tsai--her parents are from Taiwan--and the valedictorian of last year's class is at Harvard. Her name is Allison Swidriski.
Jake
Welcome back here and congratulations on your trip!
I was accepted by the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas today. I'll be entering their business program next year.
Zhadayyx, thank you.
Jake
good news~~~~congratulations~~~
by the way jake,i have a resume from my friend could you help me to check it????
>O<
Thank you. Yeah, just email it to me: jake@jasvercek.com (This is not my personal email, just one for my writing, please don't anybody delete this.)
Jake
Congratulations, Jake!
I think one of my students was studying in the University of Texas.

Thank you very much. I think I will be doing MIS (Management Information Systems). McComb's MIS program is ranked #3 in the nation.
wow! you are so young but know so much, you are very wonderful!
i am not much like the place-Lincoin city where i live, because there is no bus here so i must stay at home all the time except weekends my son may drive us out. the only way i can spend time is online.
Your life is so colorful. That's very good!
I thought you were in Boston? When'd you move to Nebraska? Or do you mean Lincoln City, Oregon?
I know exactly what you mean about no buses...you must live in the suburbs, too. I spend a great deal of time on the internet as well--that's how I learn a greal deal of the trivia that I am exposed to, but I must also study and maintain my companies.
What else do you do in your free time?
M. D. Anderson (the center to which I donated blood) said they'll mail me a card with my blood type 7-10 days after they took my blood (last Tuesday), so I'm still waiting to hear from them.
Jake
i mean Lincoln city is near by Boston, Lincoln city MA, i didn't know Nebraska?, Or Lincoln City, Oregon. now i know so much Lincoln city it seems Lincoln is a very great person!
Yeah, Lincoln was a great guy, but not in a moral sense. He was a brilliant politician who maneuvered the war to achieve what was best for the Union.
A suburb then, this Lincoln City? Small enough not to show up on a map...have you visited Boston much?
Jake
Hello, everyone. I was away last weekend at that competition in Dallas, and this week has just been messy because my grades are falling, and I’ve got a lot of assignments and other work to patch up because I’ve missed so many days.
The envelope from M. D. Anderson hasn’t come in the mail yet, so I still don’t know my blood type. I am beginning to doubt if I will ever receive it…though if I donate blood again I will be able to find out then because my blood type will be in the database.
I did fairly well at the BPA competition in Dallas. I placed first in Administrative Support Concepts, which was an Open Event, meaning that you don’t advance if you take it, and it’s basically just for fun. I thought it was pretty easy because the whole test is basically grammar and what one should/shouldn’t write in an email. I also placed third in Entrepreneurship, which is my “real” event—if you place first, second, or third in Entrepreneurship at state (which was the competition in Dallas), you advance to nationals.
Unfortunately, that girl who beat me before—Anne—got first at state, which makes me exceedingly embarrassed because I underestimated her completely. I thought for sure that regardless of how I placed I would beat her this time because I had rewritten my business plan and created a more coherent and visually appealing presentation. My entire project was much, much better this time around, and yet she still beat me. Of course, there’s the chance that she changed some stuff in her project as well, but…well, I’m over-thinking it. And over-thinking makes me nervous that even if I make my project even better, she will beat me at nationals.
Furthermore, I discovered the other day that she’s a freshman, i.e., at least three years younger than I am. You know, I’ve never quite understood the Chinese concept of “losing face”, but I’m pretty sure I just lost mine at that competition. It’s absolutely necessary that I beat her at nationals, but the more I think about it the more nervous I become that I might lose again, and I’ll never get my face back.
There was no school today, so I washed every pot in the house. Then I washed my bedspread and sheets, cleaned my entire desk, vacuumed the floor, and organized a bunch of stuff in my room. Cleaning things calms me, and I had a lot to think about regarding Anne and that competition. (I know it’s a bizarre habit, but at least my room’s clean now.)
There’s a fantastic site called WildTies.com where you can get really cheap ties at as low as $1. I bought a bunch of ties the other day, and I bought another watch (so I’d have a regular watch as well as a dress watch). I was thinking about buying a wallet, but I already have a perfectly good one that I got in Beijing, actually. It’s by Fortune Duck—I don’t know if you’ve heard of the company. (I don’t usually buy a bunch of things at once—which by the way doesn’t count as shopping as I fully intended to purchase them before I went looking for them—but I have to accessorize my business attire. I plan to attend quite a few business meetings in the next two months, and I needed ties.)
Some exciting news:
My birthday is on Wednesday, 19 March. I wanted an attaché case (also for business meetings), but it looks like I’ll have to buy it myself because I rarely ever get anything for my birthday.
Monday, 17 March is Speed Theater (I use the American spelling because, as Mr. evans says, it is a distinctly American idea). It is the fifth one sponsored by Living Art Studio Theatre, with which I am an active playwright. I have attended every single Speed Theatre thus far, and I’m pretty excited about this one because it might be the first real comedy I write. The basis of Speed Theater is writing, producing, directing, and performing about four or five 10-minute plays in a single day. It’s pretty intense, and what’s even more amazing is that all of the actors are off-book (meaning they’ve memorized all their lines) by the time they perform. I’m going to be writing for this one, as always, but I plan to act as well, which should be pretty interesting.
Saturday, 29 March is the district UIL (University Interscholastic League) competition. I will be doing the Literary Criticism event, which is so obscenely easy that it’s laughable. I’ll have an even bigger edge over my competition this year because the literature is as follows: Hamlet by William Shakespeare, Candide by Voltaire, and selected poems by John Keats. I am the only person I know who actively reads classical literature in his free time. Besides Alanya, who is British and probably won’t be competing against me.
What’s interesting is that the UIL competition was created by the University of Texas circuit, which I will be attending next year in Austin.
This next week is Spring Break for us, which means that I will have to be doing a lot of work with Renegade Magazine, such as putting together all the issues I never got around to doing last year and finally redoing the website. I also have about five pending projects with my design and marketing company, Vertigo Creations, and I expect at least ten more in the next week.
So I shan’t be on again until probably after the UIL competition. I’ll let you know how I did (probably first, as I received second last year without even reading the material) and how Speed Theater went.
Jake
P.S. i.e. = “id est”, Latin for “that is”. One of my biggest pet peeves is when people mix up “i.e.” and “e.g.” “e.g.” stands for “exempli gratia”, which means “for example”.
You have such a wonderful agenda recently. I do hope you will make up for your grades as soon as possible and I'm glad to see you did a good job in the BPA competition. Besides, it's good to see you would like to tidy up your own rooms, not like some young boys in China. By the way, I happened to have a Fortune Duck bag two years ago. Quite an coincidence!
Best wishes for your UIL competition and happy birthday to you!
Thank you very much. Unfortunately, Speed Theater was cancelled, which disappoints me greatly, but that's not to be helped. I really think I can't claim to do well at BPA until I beat that girl who placed higher than I did at both regionals and state.
Haha, yeah, Fortune Duck. I'll try to take a picture of my wallet--that'll be fun.
Jake
I think you never went to Boston, Lincoln city is not the smallest in MA, it's profile:
Area(sq. miles) 14.4
Popalation 7828(1998)
i visited Boston only three times befor yesterday. it is a big city and beautiful.
Maybe you can share the picture of your wallet here.
You're right--I've never been to Boston. I hope to visit it one day, though--it's got a great history.
To zhadayyx: I've got to borrow a camera first. I'll have it up tomorrow.
Thanks for sharing with us such wonderful updates of your life.
To be frank, it does take time to read your post through and I supppose for some users here, it's not so easy to follow.
Now it's 19th March Beijing Time today, we would like to say to you, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
I'm still interested in your blood type which is also many people's concern here.
The other concern is how you combine your literary talents with your business and how you can manage as many as three porjects at the same time.
Cheers

Yes, I do have a tendency to be rather long-winded. I apologize. I hope you've all been able to get something out of it, though--that's the important thing.
Thank you very much. It's now 11:30am, so it's my birthday here, too.
I'm interested in my blood type as well. I hope I find out soon. ):
I'm not entirely sure how I do it...I just do. I mean, I don't do them all continuously at the same time; I tend to alternate between projects. I'll work on my magazine for a while, then work on my web design company, then write a play or a story, then work on the import company, then do schoolwork (yes, unfortunately, schoolwork is at the bottom of the list), then do extracurricular activities like UIL or BPA.
It's mostly because I'm a really restless person, so I can't focus on one project for a very long time--it'll drive me insane. So having so many things to do sort of keeps me sane.
Jake
hello, jake. i read your blog, i am surprized at your harvest! it is very good and you are great! i never think i can get that things! i really feel embarrased! i am elder than you but i have no wide view point than you!
